A pub is more than just a restaurant where food and drink is consumed. A good pub is at the heart of the community in villages, towns and cities all over the world. For centuries the pub is where friends meet, colleagues "talk shop" and business people negotiate deals. Its the place where the community gathers to celebrate happy events, or to mourn sad ones. Its the place to come for spirited conversation or quiet relaxation.

The Ivory Restaurant & Pub is located in the heart of
The Connecticut River Valley between Chester and Essex, in the town of Deep River. The Ivory Restaurant & Pub is convenient to dozens of Connecticut Marinas and Connecticut Tourist Attractions.

Come for our excellent selection of beer, wine and spirits and the finest steaks and burgers, wings and ribs, pizza and pasta, or chicken and seafood. Whether you're here for the big game, to listen to live music, or for a business luncheon, a special event or just a cozy dinner by the fireplace, you're at home with us at The Ivory.

The Ivory Restaurant & Pub is committed to a long-standing tradition of community. We value your support and suggestions as we strive to be the ideal neighbor!

In 1809, George Read began a business manufacturing ivory products at the site now occupied by Piano Works.  The town grew up around this industry and for generations, the children of Deep River cut their teeth on ivory rings!  Their parents were skilled at turning ivory into combs, buttons, and piano keys.

Pratt, Read & Company

In fact, the Pratt, Read & Company factory became the nation's main supplier of piano keyboards.  During World War II, the factory also produced more than 900 Waco CG4A Glider Aircrafts to carry troops and supplies into combat.  The present building, erected in 1881, is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
